He is the face of Colorado to many across the globe. People you meet in other countries, like New Zealanders. They tell them "I come originally from Colorado" then they immediately react with Oh John Denver. Brown stated. Take Me Home Country Roads was one of Denver's top 10 singles following a performance with a smaller folk groups. It was co-written by and performed by Bill Danoff. Danoff initially wrote the song with Johnny Cash's music in mind, but Denver knew from the first time he heard the earlier versions that it would be a big hit.
